The Made in NY Media Center is proud to present Min Liu: TANGIBLE, a solo exhibition of Min Liu’s animations and installations. Curated by Thomas D. Rotenberg,TANGIBLE examines the format of animation/moving image by exploring the relationship between its digital representation and analog and physical experience. Blurring the boundary between the visible and the tangible, Min Liu offers her unique styles and fresh perspectives on what animation is, and could be.

From Min Liu’s awards winning 100-day-animation short film Bloody Dairy, which leads a quirky and yet dark journey of her personal in a form of looping GIF art wall, to her latest series of interactive installations TANGIBLE vol.1 – vol.3, which she adapts the theory of modern GIFs by utilizing pre-cinema techniques: praxinoscope and kinegram. She sets out her goal to challenge viewers’ basic concept of traditional animation with unusual medias, including record players, flipbooks and tattooing on her own skin to convey her belief of “what you see is what you get.”
