The New Negress Film Society is a core collective of Black woman filmmakers whose priority is to create community and spaces for support, exhibition and consciousness-raising. Join the Made in NY Media Center and the New Negress Film Society for "Irresistible Resistance," a presentation of shorts by members of the collective which examine power relations in the world from their experimental lens.

The latest event in the Made in NY Media Center's new Explorations series, the evening will begin with a screening of all five short films, followed by a discussion with the artists.


Films to be screened:

An Ecstatic Experience by Ja'Tovia Gary

An invocation and a meditation on transcendence as a means of restoration and resistance.


Seventh Grade by Stefani Saintonge 

Everyone is growing up except Patrice. But when a raunchy rumor threatens her best friend's reputation, she's forced to join the party and embrace adolescence


Boneshaker by Frances Bodomo

An African family, lost in America, travels to a Louisiana church to find a cure for its problem child.


savage by Kumi James

savage tells the story of a dangerous entanglement between an idealistic high school teacher and her troubled student. 


Pain Revisited by Dyani Douze and Nontsikelelo Mutiti

This audiovisual project re-imagines the black body in pain as an agent of potentiality through art and collaboration.
