The Independent Filmmaker Project, the New York-based organization supporting independent filmmakers, has named film and TV producer Jeffrey Sharp as its new executive director. He succeeds Joana Vincente, who spent nearly nine years as head of the organization, until her departure last August to take up a new role as executive director and co-head of the Toronto International Film Festival.
In December 2018, Asha Boston was selected to participate in a six-month fellowship at The Made in NY Fellowship (a partnership between The Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) and the Made in NY Media Center by IFP) for her debut film series, "A Time Before Kale."
In October, the city partnered with the Freelancers Union to open the Freelancers Hub in Brooklyn. It's a kind of communal co-working space that offers classes, tax and legal advice — all at no cost — to the city's growing population of freelance workers.
Its goal: To equip this population with the skills they need, something many experts argue traditional education isn't doing.
Made in NY Media Center is reteaming with the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment for a second year on Made in NY Fellowships, a year-long program that strives to foster a diverse media industry and provide resources and opportunities for New Yorkers to bring their media projects to the next level.

Little Starship Productions Receives ‘Made in NY’ Grant
Little Starship Productions, along with eight other early-stage projects representing innovative approaches to diverse disciplines such as film, virtual reality software, installation art/design, gaming, journalism and community building, have been designated to receive Made in NY Entrepreneur Innovation Grants of $5,000 to $10,000 in equity- and stake-free funding. The Grants were open to individuals and businesses residing in or operating primarily in New York City.
