“Marketplace” open to all IFP Media Center members
May 6, 2015 (Brooklyn, NY) – The Made in NY Media Center by IFP announced today its third installment of “Demo Day,” a flagship program for startup companies to pitch their projects to a diverse group of investors, brand agencies and technology companies. The event will take place at IFP’s Media Center on Wednesday, May 6 from 4:00-8:00PM, providing new companies with financial investment, business guidance and opportunities to collaborate on new ideas.
The six teams – four Media Center incubator projects and two guest companies all specializing in technology, media and storytelling – will present their projects to two select panelists in front of an invite-only audience. Teams prepared for “Demo Day” with a three-month long training program guided by a team of advisors and mentors representing top VCs, brand agencies and entrepreneurs. Moderated by Marc Schiller, founder and CEO of BOND Strategy and Influence, the panelists are Jed Weinthrob, VP/Head of Production, Condé Nast Entertainment, and Liz Wald, VP of Technology & Design, IndieGogo.
“We are so excited to continue ‘Demo Day’ at the Media Center with such an impressive and diverse group of projects,” said Joana Vicente, Executive Director of IFP and Made in NY Media Center. “This year’s event marks the one year anniversary of the launch of this program, and we’re thrilled with how it has grown and expanded with even more teams pitching, increased access to mentors and advisors and additional support for our participants.”
The “Demo Day” training program begins with each team being assigned a Mentor and “Art of the Pitch” expert. Mentors are selected from a list of top entrepreneurs and provide on-going support and advice on positioning business in the marketplace, business strategy and how best to present their company on “Demo Day.” Mentors include: Jeff Soto, Founder/Executive Director, Tendigi; Eliza Licht, Vice President of Community Engagement, POV; and Noah Harlan, Founder, Two Bulls.
“Art of the Pitch” experts are leading professionals with agency experience in creating engaging presentations that tell a brand story. These experts include Doug D’Arrigo, Vice President & Creative Director, MRM//McCann; Shannon Washington, Digital Creative Director, GREY NY; Alex Bisker, Director of Digital Studio, 87AM; and David Landa, Partner, Free Association.
Teams meet with their Mentors and “Art of the Pitch” experts over the course of three months leading up to their presentation on “Demo Day.” Following the presentation, participants will mingle with attendees and showcase their work in a trade show setting dubbed the Media Center “Marketplace.” The “Marketplace” will be open to all Media Center members and will provide a valuable opportunity for the six teams and more than 40 resident members to network with business leaders, media and potential collaborators.
The event will kick off with a welcoming from Vicente, followed by remarks from Cynthia López, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, and Eric J. Gertler, Executive Vice President and Managing Director for the Center for Economic Transformation at the New York City Economic Development Corporation.
